STOKKER AGRITECH clients met in Latgale (region of Latvia) on a cold March day. Nearly 50 local farmers gathered in the recreation center Ezerkrasti by the lake Razna to discuss current issues in agriculture, listen to lecturers, participate in games and enjoy evening in the sauna.

It was the first STOKKER AGRITECH client event this year, but certainly not the last one. This time we chose Latgale as the most appropriate place for the farmers to meet, and they supported this idea with the attendance of the event. The first part of the event was the seminar on current developments in the industry – the speech was held by STOKKER and STOKKER AGRITECH trade centre network representatives Normunds Prunte and Janis Trezins. Main news for customers from Latgale is the fact that trade and service centre, including the STOKKER agriculture service network, is going to be expanded in Latgale region.  Currently the construction of the new store and service centre in Jekabpils is planned. It means that products and services are going to be more available to customers from this region. STOKKER AGRITECH presented different vehicles for agriculture customers during the event. Some new technological solutions were represented and available for exploring together with STOKKER AGRITECH sales team during the event. And there was an opportunity to talk about the possibilities and conditions of these units with Nordea Finance Latvia Ltd Equipment leasing transactions Project Manager Inese Strazdina. Some of the visitors gladly used this opportunity and talked about financing for particular equipment purchase for particular farms.

The second part of the workshop was more of a discussion. The topic was the availability of EU structural funds in the nearest future. The latest information was provided by the Rural Support Service of Eastern Latgale Regional Agricultural Bureau Agriculture and Rural Development Project Manager Irena Cehovica. The positions of writers of the project were defended and the specific details were presented by the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre Project Manager Raitis Ence.

A perfectly smooth field is essential for the seed to drop to the same depth across the whole working width of the planter or drill machine. This guarantees a uniform and steady growth. Sowing preparation is often a very labour-intensive operation, especially after a frosty winter or a dry summer. Levelling the land and grinding the clods, costs time and fuel. Preparing a seedbed in just 1 pass and ensuring a uniform growth, is the factor that makes a difference to your wallet. After the seedbed is ready and free of clods, the field will respond to you and your drill(planter) with the same TLC as you have shown it.

There were different practical tasks between lectures and discussions. For example, drive with a tractor – possibility to test driving skills. The driver had to accomplish the task – drive one full circle forward and backward in a way that the string connecting the tractor and the pole in the middle is not touching the ground. Many tried and even several times, but only one succeeded. Also one female participant took part in the competition, but she also didn’t succeed.

Also visitors of the event were able to demonstrate their working skills with a chainsaw – the contest with the aim to saw off the thinnest beam. Many participants were successful in this competition, but the winner was the one whose beam was 5 millimeters thin. All winners were congratulated during the event party in sauna.

The company Stokker AGRITECH is planning to organize several workshops this year in various locations in Latvia. Follow the information and don’t miss them!
