We have prepared a new video of the pressurised storage hopper designed primarily for direct application of fertilisers into soil horizons. It is designed to maximally accommodate work and manipulation with solid fertilisers. The hopper is made of plastic with a capacity of 3,500 litres. Check out the video below to see how the machine works.
More information about this machine is available here.
The fiscal year 2017, i.e. the period from 1.11.2016 till 31.10.2017,was a record-breaking year for BEDNAR FMT, manufacturer of agricultural machinery. Just as in the previous 7 seasons, last year also showed an increase in sales, namely by 18 % – to a total of EUR 51 mil. A great effort was made to reduce costs which led to a significant increase in profits.
The company achieved very good sales results on the domestic market, in Romania, Russia, Australia and Ukraine. Its machines can be found on 38 markets, with Switzerland, Canada and China the recent additions.
Targets were met mainly thanks to the traditional product ranges of Swifter, Terraland and Swifterdisc. There has been a significantly increasing trend towards the sale of wide-mesh machinery which is the company´s long-term focus. Deliveries of Omega seed drills saw a growth of more than 50%.
Within the company, there has been a reorganization of territorial responsibilities and measures were taken to achieve higher business efficiency in the future. The changes resulted in the creation of a new business strategy for the German market where the previous team had failed to live up to the management´s vision.
At this time, the company has received 40% more orders for machinery than in the previous season from all the continents in total. Given the production capacities, the expected growth of sales for the fiscal year 2018 is 25%.

What Machines Will You See?
We are preparing the following machines for our outdoor and indoor exhibition areas:
The globally large demand for BEDNAR machines has forced the production management of the Company to increase its production capacity, which is very difficult at a time when the Czech Republic is experiencing its economic peak. “When the Czech economy is growing by 4 to 5% and the unemployment rate in our region is at a level of 3.5%,it is very difficult to recruit new employees that would help us with the production increase,” Vojtěch Bednář, BEDNAR FMT Production Manager, comments on the situation.
3shift Operation from mid-2017
“During 2017, the number of ordered machines started to increase significantly. Their value and working width started to grow even more considerably. All of that leads to a significant increase in the average value of the machine,” Vojtěch Bednář explains the changes. In mid-2017, the Company successfully launched a three-shift operation, increasing the production capacity by 30%.
New Premises for Omega Seed Drill Assembly
“The biggest issue we had to deal with last year was assembling the large number of new OMEGA seed drills. We did not expect such a large demand. Last year, we manufactured 74O mega machines. In 2018, we are planning to sell over 100 machines. We will not be able to do that without new premises and so we are planning to build a new assembly line, only for the OMEGA seed drills, in the new hall instead of spare parts which will have to be moved to another area,” Vojtěch Bednář explains the situation on the deliveries of seed drills.
Planned New Hall Construction
At present, the Company is dealing with the construction of a new, two-storey production hall with a total area of 7,500m², which could considerably aid the further potential production expansion. The hall is planned to be built in 2019.“If we want to be able to meet the demand, we have to build a new hall. In the current premises, we are able to manufacture 1,500 machines and we now have orders for 1,800 machines. The new production hall would let us manufacture 3,000 machines a year by 2020,” Vojtěch Bednář explains what the plans are.
The new machines for 2018 are: OMEGA OO 8000 L and OO 9000 L seed drills, universal VERSTILE VO 6000 and VO 7500 cultivators, SWIFTER SO 5000 L and SO 6000 L seedbed cultivators, FERTI-CART FC 3500 hopper for fertiliser, TERRASTRIP ZN 8R/45, 50, 75 chisel ploughs and the ATLAS AE 12400 stubble cultivator
OMEGA OO8000L and OO9000L are wide, versatile seed drills of a light design, with a large hopper and a capacity of 4,000 litres and disc soil cultivation that provides for seeding of various types of crops with an inter-row spacing of 12.5cm or 16.5cm and a wide range of seeding quantity, both in the conventional and minimizing soil cultivation systems. The layout of the individual working parts provides for unique and unrivalled seedbed preparation in combination with precise seed placement, low weight and easy settings.
The work discs are laid out in an X shape so that the machine works precisely behind the tractor.
Thanks to the PSP system (Precise Seed Placement), the drill coulters place seeds at an identical seeding depth along the width of the machine and perfectly trace any terrain unevenness in the lengthwise and crosswise axis.
The OMEGA OO_L seed drill has “X”-shaped disc sections, ensuring precise tracking of the tractor by the seed drill

VERSATILLE VO: Intense soil mixing and soil profile undercutting
VERSATILE VO is a ploughshare cultivator that excels in its versatility. We have designed this machine so that it can be used for various field work from spring to late autumn. The simple frame of the machine is based on 5 rows of ploughshares – laid out so that the machine is maximally permeable while mixing the top layers of soil intensely and undercutting the entire soil profile.
Vibration shares for seedbed preparation and stubble cultivation in light sandy soils
Shares with NON-STOP protection for seedbed preparation and stubble cultivation up to 15cm in heavier conditions
SWIFTER SO_L: Working at high speeds
SWIFTER SO_L is a modern type of a seedbed cultivator that prepares the field for seeding in a single pass. A great advantage is the overall spring mounting of the working frames using a patented system that allows working at high speed – up to 15km/h. The new feature of the Swifter is the option to use the finish cross-kill for better consolidation of the seedbed.
The finish cross-kill is the third cross-kill in the Swifter SO_L series. Sugar beet growers demanded this solution for better final consolidation of the seedbed just before seeding.
The working frames of the Swifter SO_L sections are spring-mounted using springs between the side frames and the main frame. This patented solution allows working with the machine at high speeds of up to 15km/h.
FERTI-CART FC: Precise placement of fertiliser, easy manipulation
FERTI-CART is a pressurised supply tank primarily designed for direct application of fertilisers into soil horizons. We have designed it so that it is most convenient for work and manipulation with solid fertilisers.
FERTI-CART is made from plastic and the outlet has a large gradient thanks to which it is also possible to apply lower quality fertilisers. The main use of the supply tank allows for the connection of other machines for soil cultivation: such as a Terraland, Terrastrip or Fenix. The tank is pressurised in order to increase batch accuracy, namely in fertilisers with more demanding distribution.
TERRASTRIP ZN: Efficient soil cultivation that reduces costs
TERRASTRIP is a chisel plough which processes soil in strips where row crops such as maize, sunflower, sugar beet etc. grow. The ploughshare spacing is 70cm and 75cm for maize and sunflower, 45cm and 50cm for sugar beet. We recommend adding profile fertilisation to loosening directly into the root zone of plants. The loosened and fertilised strips create an ideal environment for a rich root system. Effective and target-oriented soil cultivation reduces the costs while increasing the yield of the individual row crops.

ATLAS AE: Stubble cultivator for high daily outputs, even with high concentration of crop residue
ATLAS AE is a mounted wide stubble cultivator with a short frame, designed for high daily outputs and cost savings thanks to the wide coverage of the machine and high working speeds. The main advantages of the machine include the X-shaped disc lay-out, which prevents the machine drifting, and the installation of the transport axle before the work discs. This solution eliminates rocking of the machine during work. ATLAS AE excels in fast and easy turns at the headland thanks to the front rotary wheels and the rear packers. The machine design also provides for easy and safe transport on roads.

It seems that agriculture is reviving again after a lingering crisis. The positive development is mainly seen in animal production which is becoming profitable for successful breeders again and creates resources for new investments. The situation is improving not only in Europe, but all over the world. In particular, the eastern part of Europe, Russia and Ukraine have registered significant shifts forward. Plant production all over the world has received a new impulse, which started to show in 2017 with a very positive outlook for 2018.

Development of eastern farms
While farmers in the western Europe are more conservative and believe in procedures inherited from their predecessors, farmers from the East are much more open to new technologies and finding ways to increase crops. In 2017, BEDNAR delivered several integrated technological lines for profile fertilization and deep loosening to Russia and Ukraine. The Agroholdings in Ukraine go even further and they are starting to use the Terrastrip technology, in which autumn profile fertilization is done directly under the row cultures.

France is back
The year of 2016 was tragic for French farmers. Low crops together with the very low quality of harvested commodities caused a dramatic decline in demand for investments. All manufacturers of agricultural machinery, including BEDNAR, were affected by that. The quite successful harvest in 2017 started up the demand again and France filled up a large amount of the BEDNAR production with pre-seasonal orders for 2018 with an unbelievable increase of 60% when compared with 2016 and 30% when compared with 2015.
Canada on the road to deep loosening
Unlike the U.S., farmers in Canada are preferring European methods of soil cultivation more and more. The first type of machine that succeeded in Canada was a short-disc machine, supplementing the popular Zero Tillage technology. The short SWIFTERDISC is popular from Alberta through Manitoba to Quebec. Last year, BEDNAR sent the first Terraland to Alberta for testing and the machine was used for soil cultivation in the autumn. The fields cultivated with Terraland could be quickly seeded thanks to the fast spring decline of high moisture. Canadian farmers believe that the early crop establishment was the main reason for the 20% higher crop of canola (spring oil seed rape).

Practical demonstration of a Swifterdisc at work at an expo
BEDNAR introduced the mounted Terraland TO 6000 at AG MOTION, the largest exposition in Alberta and Saskatchewan, where the machine processed dozens of plots in Saskatchewan with utmost satisfaction from farmers. The method of deep cultivation, which we are now introducing with leading Canadian dealers Pentagon (Alberta) and Pattison AG (Saskatchewan),is ground-breaking.
Australia teaches CTF to BEDNAR
It has been four years since BEDNAR delivered its first machines to Australia. During the four years, we have modified the machines so that they comply with the Controlled Traffic Farming system, which was the only way to succeed in the competition with local manufacturers. While CTF is only popular in England and Europe, with some exceptions, in Australia, it is a long-standing method of farming, applicable thanks to the simple seeding procedures.
BEDNAR has developed machines customized for CTF. Terraland TO was expanded to a width of 6.4m and the SwifterDisc XE from 12m to 12.4m. In Australia, similarly to South Africa, there is very low precipitation and the given year is evaluated according to how much it rains.

South Africa experiencing hard times
South Africa has suffered the largest drought in the last 100 years. Due to the devastating drought, many farms went bankrupt and there was almost zero willingness to invest. In spite of this difficult period, BEDNAR entered the South African market at that complicated time and started to gradually succeed, which led to record-breaking sales in 2017. The year of 2017 was better for precipitation and many farms started to invest again with a good outlook for 2018.

The last machine that was first presented in Hannover was the innovated SWIFTER SO 6000L seedbed cultivator. The machine is able to prepare the field for seeding in a single pass. A great advantage is the overall spring loading of the working frames. It allows working at high speed of up to 15km/h.
BEDNAR Awarded the First Agritechnica Medal in the Czech Republic
Agritechnica is a synonym of innovations in agriculture. The best agricultural innovations from all over the world are assessed by a jury, consisting of experts selected by DLG (German Association for Agriculture), each year before Agritechnica starts. The best of the best accept the award on the first day of the fair at an official announcement of winners. This year, a manufacturer from the Czech Republic has been awarded for the very first time – the BEDNAR Company. The jury awarded the Company a silver medal for its CULTI CAM – the camera for guiding the inter-row cultivator in row crop cultures.
Together with the growing demands and stricter legislation concerning the use of chemical preparations for crop protection, new and innovative methods of mechanical cultivation are being researched. This method can be used both in special crop growths or organic farms and in conventional farming. “Our sales of inter-row cultivators have been stable, namely in the Czech Republic and in France. In the coming years, we are expecting a high increase in mechanical cultivation of wide-row crops in other countries as well,” says Jan Bednář, the Sales and Marketing Manager of BEDNAR.
Jan Bednář, the Sales and Marketing Manager, accepted the first ever Agritechnica medal awarded to a Czech manufacturer
ROW-MASTER RN 9600, the 18-row version for sugar beet, equipped with shares at Agritechnica
The Claas Company together with BEDNAR, a Czech manufacturer, and a group of other companies developed a new 3D camera with high resolution for inter-row cultivator guidance. The camera analyses the structure of leaves in the rows based on their colouring and spatial volume. The software is capable of identifying the rows of crops based on a thorough analysis and to precisely calculate control signals, even in windy conditions, in vegetation with a high rate of weeds and plants that are not green. The new camera system thus achieves a higher level of accuracy, even in complicated conditions, and thus allows for a higher working speed that increases daily output. “It is a historical success for Czech agriculture. We are greatly honoured. It is another step to achieving our corporate vision,” he adds.

Programme for International Journalists
An accompanying programme was prepared for the four-day stay of the Federation, mostly in South Bohemia. Before moving to the meeting venue in České Budějovice, the journalists visited the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. On the following days, they visited MADETA in Český Krumlov, traditional pond fishing in the Třeboň Region, a demonstration of BEDNAR agricultural technology and top-quality animal production in the Bernartice Agricultural Cooperative.
The executive members of IFAJ who visited the Czech Republic were from the following countries: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine and USA. The executive members from other countries excused themselves from participation.
MULCHER MM 7000 was one of the machines that BEDNAR presented to the international journalists
Ing. David Ryčl, Sales Manager for the Czech Republic and Poland, pointed out the precise work of the machines
What BEDNAR Machines Were Presented?
We prepared a commented demonstration of machines for IFAJ, working in a maize stubble field on the land owned by ZD Bernartice. The first machine to be presented was a MULCHER MM 7000 in aggregation with a John Deere 6215 R, which mulched and evenly spread maize crop residue on the field. It was followed by the ATLAS AO 8000 L disk cultivator, which performed quality stubble cultivation at a depth of 16cm.
After that TERRALAND machines started working: in particular, the TERRALAND TN 3000 in aggregation with a John Deere 8360 R and a TERRALAND TO 5000 with John Deere 9470 R.The chisel ploughs performed intense deep soil cultivation. Together with TERRALAND machines, a FENIX FN 3000 with FERTI-BOX FB 2000 F in aggregation with John Deere 8310 R were also presented. The set demonstrated supply fertilisation directly into the soil profile.

A commented demonstration of machines at work was prepared for the journalists
At the end, Ing. David Ryčl, Regional Sales Manager for the Czech Republic and Poland, presented the new OMEGA OO 6000 L Seed Drill in aggregation with a John Deere 7230 R. An OMEGA OO_L is a versatile seed drill with a light design and precise seed bed preparation.
Basic Information about ZD Bernartice
The agricultural business manages an area of 2,900 hectares. The arable land forms 2,400 hectares; the remaining 500ha are meadows. The main crop of ZD Bernartice is wheat, grown on average on an area of 1,000ha, followed by 500ha of oil seed rape, 400–500ha of winter barley together with oats, 250ha of maize, 150ha of clover and 100ha of peas.
The main reason why the journalists visited this organisation is their top-quality animal production. Pavel Novotný, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, told us the details: “We raise 1,700 cattle, out of which 600 are dairy cows. We raise calves that are born here. We use heifers in our own breeding and we full-feed bulls and sell them for slaughter. Annually, we produce 4,100,000 litres of milk, thanks to which we are one of the large dairy companies. Milk is our crucial market commodity.”
The Chairman of ZD Bernarticegave the journalists a tour of the agricultural premises in Jestřebice
Pavel Novotný, Chairman of the Cooperative, provides some important information about the organisation
Strategic planning is used in the company. They regularly prepare a vision with an 8-year forecast. The current one applies until 2025. They continuously evaluate it and determine their successes and failures in the past year. “Thanks to the vision, we do not act hastily but always in the given planning interval. It is beneficial for all the parties involved,” Mr. Novotný adds.
Using TERRALAND TN in the Cooperative
The Cooperative owns a TERRALAND TN 3000. “We mostly use it now, in the autumn. We use it to prepare areas where we will grow maize next year. We also use it for headlands where the soil is most compacted and so we process it in depth and aerate it,” Mr. Novotný adds in conclusion.
